Bean Bowl
Pit fired ceramic, hand burnished and finished with beeswax.
15.5x11.5x5cm
Pit firing is an outdoor firing technique which involves firing ceramics in a pit with a wood fire on top. Natural combustibles such as walnut shells and seaweed, as well as oxides, colours the ceramic during the 6 hours firing, and slow multi-day cooling. Each piece is unique, with unpredictable marks and colours created by combustion within the pit.
Due to the nature of pit firing, these pieces are not ‘functional’ and purely decorative, i.e. they will not hold water.
